S ep 1 99 5 On the intermittent energy transfer at viscous scales in turbulent flows

چکیده
In this letter we present numerical and experimental results on the scaling properties of velocity turbulent fields in the range of scales where viscous effects are acting. A generalized version of Extended Self Similarity capable of describing scaling laws of the velocity structure functions down to the smallest resolvable scales is introduced. Our findings suggest the absence of any sharp viscous cutoff in the intermittent transfer of energy.

Numerical simulation of nanofluid flow over diamond-shaped elements in tandem in laminar and turbulent flow
In this paper, the Al2O3-water nanofluid flow in laminar and turbulent flows inside tubes fitted with diamond-shaped turbulators is numerically modeled. The nanofluid flow is modeled by employing a two-phase mixture method and applying the constant heat flux boundary condition at tube walls. In the results, the effects of different parameters such as the geometry of turbulators, volume fraction...
متن کاملImproved convection cooling in steady channel flows
A fundamental problem in heat transfer is the convective cooling of the heated walls of a channel. We find steady two-dimensional (2D) flows that maximize the heat removed from fixed-temperature walls for a given rate of energy used to drive the flow, Pe (Pe is the Peclet number, a dimensionless flow speed). For parabolic (Poiseuille) flow, the heat transfer scales as Pe. Starting from Poiseuil...
متن کاملEffects of coupling on turbulent gas-particle boundary layer flows at borderline volume fractions using kinetic theory
This study is concerned with the prediction of particles’ velocity in a dilute turbulent gas-solidboundary layer flow using a fully Eulerian two-fluid model. The closures required for equationsdescribing the particulate phase are derived from the kinetic theory of granular flows. Gas phaseturbulence is modeled by one-equation model and solid phase turbulence by MLH theory. Resultsof one-way and...
متن کاملOn Conservative Smoothers for Turbulent Convection: an Alternative Simulation Shortcut
Most turbulent flows can not be computed directly from the Navier-Stokes equations, because they possess far too many scales of motion. The computationally almost numberless small scales result from the nonlinear convective term which allows for the transfer of energy from scales as large as the flow domain to the smallest scales that can survive viscous dissipation. In the quest for a simulati...
متن کاملIntermittency and Eddy-viscosities in Dynamical Models of Turbulence
The dependence of intermittent inertial properties on ultraviolet eddy viscosity closures is examined within the framework of shellmodels of turbulent flows. Inertial intermittent exponents turn out to be fairly independent on the way energy is dissipated at small scales.
